Senior Manager, Design

As HSH Group (owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels) continues to invest in its global portfolio of luxury hotels and property assets, we are seeking a Senior Manager, Design to provide design and project coordination for interior & architectural design across HSH’s luxury hotel portfolio, including capital expenditure programmes, refurbishments, repositioning initiatives and new-build developments. The role supports the Design leads in shaping design direction from feasibility and concept development through to project delivery, ensuring that each project reflects the HSH brand, enhances the guest experience, supports operational efficiency and meets commercial objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the coordination of interior & architectural design workstreams across assigned projects, ensuring alignment with architectural intent, operational requirements, brand standards and commercial objectives.
  • Act as the main point of contact for appointed interior & architectural design consultants and specialist advisors, providing clear direction, timely feedback and effective coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review design submissions, drawings, material proposals, schedules and presentations at key project stages, consolidating comments and recommendations for senior review and approval.
  • Support the Senior Vice President, Design and Design Directors on key design decisions, strategic project direction and approval processes.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including Operations, Technical Services, Brand, Development, Procurement and property teams, to ensure design solutions are practical, brand-aligned and deliverable.
  • Prepare and contribute to selected in-house concept designs, test fits, feasibility studies and design presentations to support project evaluation and decision-making.
  • Lead design workshops and coordination meetings, ensuring actions, comments and design issues are clearly captured, communicated and resolved.
  • Identify and escalate design, coordination, operational or programme risks, and work with consultants and internal teams to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Monitor consultant deliverables, design milestones and project schedules, particularly on assignments where dedicated project management support is limited.
  • Support value engineering and design optimisation initiatives, balancing design quality, guest experience, operational needs and commercial discipline.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental standards, design processes, consultant briefing materials and internal ways of working.

General Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in a design or project role within high end project environments, either client side or within a design practice.
  • Degree qualified in Interior and Architecture Design.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects from concept through to delivery in an owner‑side or design leadership capacity.
  • Strong verbal (English) and visual communication skills, with the ability to articulate design intent clearly to executive and operational stakeholders.
  • Commercially astute, with experience balancing design excellence, programme, and budget considerations.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, PowerPoint and Excel
