Faculty Position in Physics

Reykjavik University seeks applicants for an on site, permanent, full time faculty position in Physics, in the Department of Engineering. We are open to various specializations that strengthen the departmental educational portfolio. We aim to appoint academic leaders who will contribute to internationally competitive research and educate outstanding graduates.

Position Levels:

• Assistant Professor
• Associate Professor
• Full Professor

The rank of appointment will depend on the candidate’s qualifications.

Duties

• Teach approximately three courses per year
• Develop courses in physics and related fields
• Secure funding for research projects
• Mentor graduate students and post doctoral researchers
• Participate in department and university administrative and outreach activities
• Actively build and manage collaborations with industry and other institutions

Requirements

• PhD in Physics or related fields
• Proven track record of high quality, independent research
• Teaching experience, including course design and organization, and the candidate must be motivated for excellence in teaching
• Industry experience is an advantage
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in diverse, interdisciplinary teams
• Fluency in English and the ability to teach undergraduate courses in Icelandic

The applied science group offers undergraduate and graduate courses in classical and modern physics, mathematics, numerical analysis, materials science, chemistry, computing etc to our engineering students. Research activities include e.g. nanophysics and quantum theory, vacuum electronics, chemical processes, electrochemistry, and geophysics.
